A charming city |
  |
Oviedo, with its more than twelve hundred years of history, is the geographical, political and administrative centre of Asturias.
Located at the very heart of the Principality, it is surrounded by fertile green valleys, only twenty minutes from the coast and within easy reach of the imposing Cantabrian Mountains.
With a population of just over 200,000 inhabitants, Oviedo is the perfect city to explore on foot, since distances are very short and everything is within walking distance. On foot one can admire the city’s streets and historical buildings, not to mention the sculptures by Úrculo or Botero, among others, that adorn them, or the beautiful parks and gardens that form part of the million square metres of its green areas.
The proximity of the Conference Centre, most of the city’s hotels and its historic centre means that logistics is never a problem in Oviedo.
One of the things that most visitors notice about Oviedo is how clean it is. Multiple winner of the annual “Golden Broom” award, this year it received the “Platinum Broom”, the highest distinction awarded by the Spanish Waste Management and Environment Technical Association.
The attractive historic centre of old Oviedo has been perfectly preserved, and most of its streets are now for pedestrian use only.
However, if you want to get out of the city and get in touch with nature without having to drive, the two Green Paths that have their starting points within the city allow us to take a peaceful walk, surrounded by greenery and wild life on all sides.
In Oviedo you will find an extremely safe, open and cosmopolitan city that offers its visitors a wide variety of activities and places to see.
